What is AI search optimization (and LLM SEO)?

AI search optimization is the practice of making your website readable, structured and citable by the AI systems that now answer buyer questions — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Where classic SEO optimises for a ranked list of links, AI search optimization optimises for being the source a model reads, trusts and cites inside a generated answer. LLM SEO is the same discipline under a different name. So are “generative engine optimization” (GEO) and “answer engine optimization” (AEO).
